AI for freight brokers: what it does, what it costs, and which tools to compare (2026)

"AI for freight brokers" covers a handful of specific jobs: reading quote requests, building loads, finding and booking carriers, running check calls and chasing paperwork. The current top Google results mostly debate whether AI will replace brokers. This guide answers the practical question: which tools do which job, what they cost where the price is public, and which TMS and load boards they connect to.

The 5 jobs AI does in a brokerage

When you read the vendors' own product pages, the same five workflows come up again and again. Each one is a separate buying decision, because few tools are equally strong at all five.

  1. Quoting. The AI reads inbound quote requests in the inbox, pulls rates from your pricing engines and rate history, and drafts or sends a reply. Vooma describes "automated email quoting" connected to your pricing engines. Transfix pitches AI pricing built on custom cost models.
  2. Load building / order entry. Shipment details are extracted from emails, PDFs and spreadsheets and the load is created in your TMS. Vooma, Augment ("Load Building") and Debales AI ("reads emails, updates systems") all name this.
  3. Covering loads (carrier sales). Posting to DAT and Truckstop, fielding carrier calls and emails, vetting carriers, negotiating and booking. Lanesurf sells "AI carrier sales reps that call, email and text". Vooma says it posts to DAT & Truckstop and negotiates. HappyRobot lists carrier sales as a logistics use case. FleetWorks works from the carrier side, bidding into connected brokers' systems on behalf of carriers.
  4. Check calls and track & trace. Calling or texting drivers for ETAs and appointment confirmations, then escalating exceptions. Augment, Vooma and HappyRobot name this. Keelway sells an AI Voice add-on for check calls, which it labels as early access.
  5. Documents and billing. Chasing PODs and BOLs, filing them and triggering invoices. Augment ("Document Management") and Vooma ("Collect") name this. FreightScout meters a "Bill" stage per load.

Comparison table

Prices are copied as the vendor states them, with a link to the source. "Integrations" lists only systems named on the vendor's homepage or integrations page; a blank means the vendor doesn't publicly name any, not that none exist. "Best for" summarises the vendor's own stated audience.

What it costs: published prices

Most broker AI vendors hide pricing behind a demo. Of the 14 tools above, these publish numbers on their official sites (checked Oct 15, 2026):

  • Keelway: $799/month flat with unlimited users, month-to-month, 30-day free trial. Optional add-ons: Fraud Shield $199/month and AI Voice $399/month per seat. Keelway labels both add-ons as early access and says no brokerage runs Voice on a live desk yet.
  • FreightScout: $1,500/month platform with 3 seats, $349/month per added seat, a usage meter of $1 per load stage (Build, Cover, Track, Bill), capped at $4.00 per load, and a one-time implementation fee from $5,000 for up to 15 seats. 12-month standard contract.
  • Turvo: "Starts at $5,000 / Month" on its pricing page.
  • Augment: priced per completed workflow unit ("not seats, not tokens"), with no dollar amounts published.

Vooma, HappyRobot, Parade, Lanesurf, Drumkit, Debales AI, CloneOps and Transfix don't publish prices. Treat any third-party estimate of their pricing as unverified.

How to choose

  1. Start with your biggest time sink. Count it for a week: quote emails answered, loads keyed by hand, check calls made. Buy for the job that costs the most hours, not for the longest feature list.
  2. Check your TMS is named. If you run McLeod, Turvo, Aljex, Revenova, Tai or Rose Rocket, look for it in the integrations column. Vooma and Keelway name several of these on their official sites. If your TMS isn't named, ask the vendor for a live reference customer on the same system.
  3. Decide between a bolt-on and a platform. Bolt-ons (Vooma, Lanesurf, Drumkit, Augment) sit on top of your existing TMS. Platforms (Keelway, FreightScout, Turvo, Transfix) replace or include the TMS. Switching TMS is a much bigger project.
  4. Ask how pricing scales. Flat (Keelway), seats plus per-load usage (FreightScout), or per completed task (Augment) behave very differently in a peak month.
  5. Insist on human approval at first. Run a supervised pilot on one lane or one customer, and measure win rate and errors before letting it book or send on its own.

Risks and compliance

  • AI voice calls and consent. The FCC's February 2024 declaratory ruling (FCC-24-17) confirms that AI-generated voices are "artificial" voices under the TCPA, so such calls generally need the called party's prior express consent unless an exemption applies. Ask vendors how they handle disclosure and consent.
  • Fraud and double brokering. An AI that books carriers faster can also book a bad carrier faster. Check which carrier-vetting tools are connected. Vooma names Highway, RMIS and MyCarrierPackets on its integrations page.
  • Vendor claims are claims. Win-rate and time-saved figures on vendor sites (for example Vooma's "15% improvement in email quote win rate") haven't been independently verified. Measure them in your own pilot.

Frequently asked questions

How are freight brokers using AI?

Based on what vendors say their products do on their own sites, brokers use AI for five jobs: (1) reading quote requests and replying with rates, (2) building loads in the TMS from emails, PDFs and spreadsheets, (3) covering loads, meaning posting to load boards, calling or texting carriers and negotiating, (4) check calls and track-and-trace, and (5) chasing PODs and other documents so billing can happen. Most tools start with one job and expand from there.

Will AI take freight brokers jobs?

Nobody can answer that with certainty. Inbound Logistics argues that transactional tasks (data entry, status updates, routine quoting) are most likely to be automated, while relationship and strategic work is least likely to be replaced. Kearney discusses whether AI disintermediates brokers. The tools in this guide are sold as handling repetitive work under human supervision. Several, like FreightScout and Augment, describe supervised or SOP-driven workflows rather than fully autonomous brokerages.

What is the best AI for logistics?

There is no single best tool; it depends on the job. For an all-in-one broker platform covering quote, build, schedule, cover, track and collect, compare Vooma, FreightScout and Augment. For AI carrier calls specifically, compare Lanesurf, HappyRobot, Parade and FleetWorks (FleetWorks is carrier-side). For a small brokerage that wants a TMS with AI and a published price, Keelway lists $799/month flat. For forwarders, see our freight forwarding list.

What is the best software for freight brokers?

Most brokerages run a TMS (for example McLeod, Turvo, Aljex, Revenova, Tai or Rose Rocket) and add AI on top. So the first filter is whether the AI tool names your TMS as an integration. Among the tools here, Vooma, Keelway and Debales AI name the most TMS and load-board integrations on their official sites. Turvo and Transfix are TMS platforms with AI features.

Is there free AI for freight brokers?

Among the broker tools we checked, none advertises a free plan. Keelway offers a 30-day free trial with no card required. FleetWorks is $0 for carriers during Early Access, but that is the carrier side, not the broker side.

How much does AI for freight brokers cost?

Most vendors do not publish prices. Those that do, as of Oct 15, 2026: Keelway $799/month flat for unlimited users (AI Voice add-on $399/month per seat); FreightScout $1,500/month platform including 3 seats, plus $349 per added seat and up to $4.00 per load in usage, plus implementation from $5,000; Turvo states a starting price of $5,000/month. Augment prices per completed workflow but publishes no dollar amounts.

Do AI voice agents calling carriers need consent?

The FCC ruled in February 2024 (FCC-24-17) that AI-generated voices count as "artificial" voices under the TCPA, so calls using them generally require the called party's prior express consent unless an exemption applies. Ask each vendor how they handle consent and disclosure. Keelway, for example, states that every AI call discloses it is an AI agent. This is not legal advice.
